Adventures in Photography

While out walking around downtown Ballard I saw some interesting subjects today.

Not quite sure why there is a loveseat in the middle of a field but certainly pops against the background. Maybe the color was too garish.

I caught this out of the corner of my eye just before this truck pulled away. A very small sign nobody would probably notice.

Who wants to live forever?

Immortality is just around the corner? If you believe some scientists studying how our bodies age at the cellular and molecular levels, then it is in the realm of possibility. Personally I wouldn't mind living longer if the aging process could be slowed or slightly reversed.

But what are the social implications? Should we be living longer when the planet is straining to support the current population? There is a nice article over at livescience.com describing the possible impact of anti-aging research on society.

1.3 million dollars later and I have my life back

Just got home from work and a big weight is off my shoulders (and hopefully on somebody else's). I spent the better part of this year working on a new computing center and it was a project I thought would never end. My department and I had countless hours planning, programming and installing of new servers for our company. This evening everything finally came to fruition with us flipping a switch and watching the web traffic flowing on to the new systems. Then shit started breaking and I jumped into action to quickly figure out what went wrong. Only a few hours later and everything is seems to functioning normally. *crosses fingers*

Morning will come too soon.

The zombie awakens

For the past week insomnia has been the enemy and it is an unsettling state of reality. I always took sleep for granted but when you are only getting 1 or 2 hours a day, you really wonder what you are missing and how much concentration it takes to actually interact with someone on coherent basis.

Last night I finally got real sleep and I am feeling quite a bit better. Still tired but awake enough to actually see what a disaster area my place is. Oy vay. I see some more napping in my future and a evening of finishing up Lost season 2. Maybe even figure out if there is a desk under all my mail.

A Virus of the Mind

A great song by Heather Nova.

We can spend our lives letting the world tell us who we are. Sane or insane. Saints or sinners. Heroes or victims. Letting history tell us how good or bad we are.

Letting our past decide our future, Or we can decide for ourselves.

And maybe it's our job to create something better.

There is no certain path in this life, building our world out of dreams and chaos.
You can make plans for the future but chances that it will turn out with any semblance to your ideals is pretty slim.

"When you let other people tell you what's right, when you leave your instinct and your own truth behind - that's a virus of the mind"
