Catching my breath

Feeling very run down lately, almost reminds me of the days at the Fish when I worked long hours. Of course Geddy tap dancing on my head at odd times in the early mornings doesn't help either. My mind is like a public access channel run amok but I can only laugh and be amused.

I have decided to coast this week. Work on my own projects and delay some client projects until next week. Maybe even finish a book, what a grand idea.

I also think I like the new SCIFI channel series the Dresden Files. I have a soft spot for shows about magic, guys who had a tough childhood and a disembodied wizard as a roommate. He also had his fair share problems with females, both good and bad. And easy to DVR since it comes on just before Battlestar Galactica on Sundays.

Picture is worth - wait that's not quite right

So yesterday I wrote that "A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words." But of course many sayings are mangled in translation. It was originally a Chinese proverb. Here is a image with the original saying in Chinese plus a partly correct translation in english.

The literal translation is: A Picture's Meaning Can Express Ten Thousand Words.

Certainly a more passive saying and maybe not as succinct or catchy but I certainly see where not every picture is expressing even a hundred words much less a thousand words. Then there are those pictures that express only three words like "What the Fuck?", just like watching a Mel Gibson film.

Donuts and Shadows

I was gifted a very large donut from pike place market yesterday and I must say that it was a magnificent chunk of pastry (yummy it was). But as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Added another one with a DVD for scale.

This morning I spied a shadow in my kitchen window:

Winter Wonderland 2

Second time this season we have had snow in Seattle. It is usually rare to have this much snow and be this cold. Maybe global warming is going to cause more snow in our futures?

Playing with game characters

The past few days I've been working on creating a series of game characters for a project I'm working on. Not easy to do but the results are starting to turn out very cool.

Here are a few examples:

I think the "Time for Pie" guy will become a hacker character.

Next three are of "Steph" and probably some executive for a corporation.

And poor Magneto got a raw deal at the end of X3, attacked by the "good guys" with the mutant "cure"

A New Year

I don't believe in resolutions or anything of the like. But I do have a good feeling about 2007. We will see what kind of creative solutions and discoveries are made along the way.

I also think back to all the spirits that were lost in 2006. Unfortunately nothing was fair or honorable about the friends we lost. It was all just senseless. Nathan Esch was one such soul. He served multiple tours of duty in Afghanistan, only to lose his life in a car accident while trying to celebrate 4th of July with friends. In the famous unfortunate death category, Steve "The Crocodile Hunter" Irwin received a fatal attack from a usually harmless stingray while doing what he loved. More recently a very handsome cat named Merlin who loved his owner sincerely, developed cancer and had to be put to sleep. He was very noble and had a sweet personality. I still remember scratching him on his back near his tail and seeing him furiously licking the air. He was a great cat and will be missed from quite a few laps.
