Winter Wonder

When it's winter in the city
and my breath hangs in the air,
The snow is crunching beneath my feet
and glisten in the air.
The stars at night light up my world
so I never walk alone;
It's clear and crisp and beautiful
in the city I call home.

Seattle Snow

It decided to snow for a second day in a row and this time is has decided to stick around. So I walked outside and took a couple pictures.

Fresh snow in my driveway... you can also see it coming down.

Here is another picture with the flash to emphasize the snow falling.

Back to watching Heroes

We are not all the same

My journal subject might be stating the obvious but most companies that were trying to sell you something didn't actually realize it until last few decades. It took spaghetti sauce to figure out that people have different tastes and are actually very poor at expressing those to companies. And most companies were under the impression that they needed to make best single product that satisfied everybody, not realizing that there was no such beast.

So enjoy this video by Malcolm Gladwell explaining how spaghetti sauce changed the variety of products available to us. (Don't mind the scary massive hair :)

I am very glad that I can choose to buy a dozen different varieties of bread or interesting flavors of ice cream that weren't available before. Now if they would just bring back the Edwards Lemon Meringue pies they discontinued.

Creating a successful website

I'm currently reading Marshall Brain's WebKew blog. He has a wealth of ideas on creating successful websites and hopefully earning some income from them. It would be a smart idea to diversify my income and add to the money I get from consulting.

Mostly food for thought at the moment. At this stage I'm just putting some google ads on some of my websites and that generates a trickle of dollars. Probably enough to pay for my soda consumption every month but that's about it. But once I get some of my other projects farther along I will be able to get make more money from ads and affiliate programs (like Amazon, Ebay, etc.).

You can find the WebKew blog at: WebKew

Interesting things on YouTube

Sometimes you just do a series of random searches because you are really really bored. I decided to try my luck on YouTube and see what interesting videos I could find. I was looking for some Lisa Loeb videos that I haven't seen before. Found some cool stuff I never saw before like her making a music video and some live concert performances. But the most interesting one (to me) is a video of her modeling some underwear for Isaac Mizrahi.

He's right she has a cute ass. (Video requires YouTube login, use BugMeNot to get a login)

Risk - Real vs Perceived

Bruce Schneier has blog entry about real vs perceived threats. He is my hero in pointing out that most government and corporate entities practice Security Theater aka making look like we are more secure but doing nothing to real to fix the problem.

Time and Motion

Time and motion
Wind and sun and rain
Days connect like boxcars in a train

Fill them up with precious cargo
Squeeze in all that you can find
Spontaneous elation
And the long-enduring kind

Time and motion
Flesh and blood and fire
Lives connect in webs of gold and razor wire

Spin a thread of precious contact
Squeeze in all that you can find
Spontaneous relations
And the long-enduring kind

The mighty ocean
Dances with the moon
The silent forest
Echoes with the loon

Time and motion
Live and love and dream
Eyes connect like interstellar beams

Superman in Supernature
Needs all the comfort he can find
Spontaneous emotion
And the long enduring kind

This lyric kept dancing in my head.... to Live, to Love, to Dream
